GML is a language that is otherwise useless outside of GMS. I have migrated to a different platform for future projects and I advise others to consider using other options as well. If I want to create a game that is edgy or touches on subject matter that is unpleasant, deals with dark/mature themes or offensive to some people, I will. When a company is guiding your hand, telling you what kinds of content you can and cannot make, it stifles creativity. The nomenclature used in the new terms of service indicates to me that it is becoming a more homogenized, stagnant platform for developing games. If GMS was a subscription based software, I would never have considered working with it in the first place as other engines do the same thing or better (some of which are free). Since Yoyo games was acquired by Opera there have been some unwelcome changes. Most of my time spent in the application are not on the steam version but on the Windows build. I have used GM and GMS since version 5 or 6. It's unfortunate that I have to give a negative review for this software. There are of course also a number of other changes and several important bug fixes, so of course do also read the rest of the release notes carefully.
The matching runtime version updates a number of the SDKs GMS2 requires during builds (so please see our setup guides if you have issues building projects) and fixes an issue with Android API 31+ with Android 12 devices.
Please be aware this updated Spine runtime will require you to re-export your Spine images using v4.0 before they will work again in GMS2! This release also raises Spine support to require v4.0.
This release also sees several performance increases (such as native Mac M1 architecture support for GMS2 itself) and some load time boosts for opening your projects and also for games starting at the end of builds. 2.3.7 brings the ability to sign in to GMS2 using an Opera single sign-on account if you wish, adds support for a new "nullish" operator in your code, and introduces three more filter layer types your can use in your rooms as well as enabling the Inspector for use in your rooms.
